I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Airtight Windows to anyone looking to upgrade windows. Owen was friendly and professional from start to finish, much better value than any of the other companies who quoted. Installation went smoothly and Anthony cleaned up any mess that was made during the process. Very pleasant to deal with and we are delighted with the result!

Airtight Window Systems did an excellent job installing our new front door and casement windows. From the first contact through to the final fit and finish, their team was professional, punctual, and clearly knew what they were doing. The workmanship is top-notch. Everything feels solid, looks great, and the casement windows open and close smoothly.

Would highly recommend Owen and his crew! Felt really looked after from the initial email, to Owen coming out to measure and quote for our doors and windows. We received our quote on the same day! Took 6 weeks from ordering for the doors and windows to arrive and they were out just days after! The team installing were amazing, they arrived right on the dot each morning and had the entire house done in 3 days. Everything went so smoothly, talk about stress free!

Excellent company and an absolute pleasure to deal with. My family have had three front door installations by Airtight and all three were flawless from start to finish. Highly recommended.

This is the second job I have had done with Owen — his advice and guidance on the best solution is honest and the best. Prices are very keen. The door was installed by Anthony and what a brilliant job he did, with no mess, and happily did some other related jobs that had been requested. Very pleasant and trustworthy workmen to have around the house. Super door replacement, no more draughts, happy days!

What Are Tilt and Turn Windows?

A tilt and turn window has one handle controlling two actions. Turn it 90° and the sash swings fully inward like a door — ideal for cleaning both panes from inside and for use as an escape window. Turn it 180° and the sash tilts in at the top, leaving a secure ventilation gap. It is the standard window style across Germany, Austria and Scandinavia, and is increasingly popular in Irish new builds, apartments and upstairs rooms where cleaning the outside pane safely is otherwise impossible.

How we work

Why Irish Homes Choose Tilt and Turn

The tilt position gives continuous background ventilation without an open window a child could climb through or a burglar could reach into — a genuine safety upgrade over a night-latch casement. The full inward turn means no ladders, no leaning out of upstairs windows and no paying a window cleaner for the outside pane. The compression seal around the whole frame closes tighter than a standard hinge window, which is why tilt and turn units consistently achieve excellent airtightness and acoustic results on Irish BER assessments.

Why Airtight

Tilt and Turn vs Casement — Which Should You Choose?

Casement windows open outward on a side hinge; tilt and turn windows open inward with two positions. Choose tilt and turn if you want secure trickle-free ventilation, easy inside-and-out cleaning, or need the window to double as an escape route in a bedroom. Choose casement if you want the cheapest A-rated option or prefer the traditional outward-opening look. We supply and fit both — most customers mix them: tilt and turn upstairs and in the kitchen, casement downstairs where external sills suit the facade.

Why us

Security and Child Safety

In the tilt position, the window stays locked around three sides with only a narrow top gap — you can air a bedroom overnight without security worries. Optional child-restricted handles require a key or button press to move from tilt to full turn, keeping small children safe on upper floors. Multi-point locking engages around the full frame in the closed position, and all opening sashes carry a 6-point shoot bolt locking system with internal glazing beads so glass cannot be removed from outside.

Common questions

Airtight Window Systems Ltd supplies and installs Energy Rating A tilt and turn windows in 28mm double glazing or 40mm triple glazing. Triple-glazed units achieve U-values as low as 0.9 W/m2K; double-glazed units range from 1.2 to 1.4 W/m2K.

  • Pilkington K Low-E glass, argon-filled and warm-edge sealed for maximum thermal performance
  • Dual-action German-engineered hardware rated for tens of thousands of open/close cycles
  • 6-point shoot bolt locking on all opening sashes; internally glazed to stop glass removal from outside
  • Child-restricted handles and easy-clean hinge options available on request
  • White, anthracite grey, black, cream and woodgrain foil finishes — one colour outside, another inside if you like
  • Suits apartments, upstairs bedrooms, kitchens and any room where safe cleaning or secure ventilation matters

Tilt and turn is the most versatile window format we fit, and it solves problems other styles cannot.

  • Secure ventilation: the tilt gap airs the room while the sash stays locked on three sides — no night-latch needed.
  • Easy cleaning: both panes wipe clean from inside the room, a real saving on upstairs windows.
  • Escape opening: the full inward turn gives a clear escape route, which matters for bedrooms and apartments.
  • Superior airtightness: the compression seal around the whole frame beats sliding and side-hung designs on air-leakage tests.
  • Acoustic comfort: that same seal, plus laminated or acoustic glass options, cuts road noise noticeably.
  • Low maintenance: uPVC frames never need painting — an occasional wipe with warm soapy water keeps them looking new.

Frequently Asked Questions

uPVC tilt and turn windows cost from €750 + VAT per window fitted, with most standard bedroom windows landing at €750–€850. Triple-glazed or oversized units run €900–€1,100. That is roughly €100–€150 more than an equivalent casement window because of the dual-action hardware. A full house of 10 tilt and turn windows typically costs €7,500–€10,000 + VAT before the SEAI grant. We provide a fixed, itemised quote within 24 hours of measuring — no hidden costs.

Yes — they are one of the safest options. In the tilt position the sash opens only a few centimetres at the top while remaining locked around the other three sides, so a child cannot fall out or climb through. Optional child-restricted handles require a key or button press to switch from tilt to full turn. Multi-point locking engages around the full frame when closed.

Yes. A-rated tilt and turn windows qualify for the SEAI Better Energy Homes window grant — €1,500 to €4,000 depending on home type — provided your home was built before 2011 and the work is done by an SEAI-registered installer (which we are). See our SEAI grant pages for full eligibility and amounts by home type.

Every tilt and turn window we fit is Energy Rating A as standard. Double-glazed units achieve U-values of 1.2–1.4 W/m²K, and our 40mm triple-glazed units reach 0.9 W/m²K — comfortably inside the SEAI grant threshold of 1.4 W/m²K and Building Regulations Part L requirements. We use Pilkington K Low-E glass, argon-filled and warm-edge sealed.

Absolutely — most of our customers do. A common combination is tilt and turn upstairs and in the kitchen (secure ventilation, easy cleaning) with casement or flush sash downstairs, or sliding sash at the front of a period home. Frames, colours and glazing bars match across styles, so the house looks consistent from the kerb.
