Sliding patio doors in Dublin are the space-efficient alternative to French doors: the panels glide parallel to the wall, so no floor space is lost to door swing in smaller Dublin gardens. Our uPVC sliding door systems are available up to 6 metres wide, A-rated double or triple glazed, and include a low aluminium threshold suited to level-access requirements.
Airtight is a family-owned Dublin installer with over 5,247 installations completed since 2003, and our own directly employed fitters carry out every sliding door job. A 10-year workmanship guarantee covers all labour and installation. Owen responds within 24 hours and prepares your fixed-price written quote after survey.

Sliding doors maximise space without requiring clearance for door swing—perfect for Dublin's compact gardens and extensions. Whether you're renovating a Victorian terrace in Rathmines or adding an extension in Swords, our sliding door systems work where French doors can't.
Unlike French doors that need 90cm+ clearance to open, sliding doors glide parallel to your wall. This means more usable space for furniture, plants, or outdoor dining—critical in Dublin's smaller rear gardens. A sliding door is the natural choice when a kitchen island, sofa or dining table sits right inside the opening: there is no swinging leaf to work around, so you keep every centimetre of floor. It is also why sliding doors are the default for rear kitchen extensions, where the opening is wide and internal space is at a premium.
Almost every sliding door we fit in Dublin is one of two systems. uPVC sliding doors suit standard 2.4m–3m openings and are the budget-friendly, zero-maintenance choice for most semis and terraces. Aluminium lift & slide doors are the premium option for openings up to 6m, with ultra-slim sightlines for maximum glass—ideal for extensions and new builds. Below is what each system includes so you can match the door to your opening and budget.

What's covered: – Free repairs for manufacturing defects – Free replacement of failed sealed glass units – Adjustment of doors if operation becomes stiff Emergency support: If your sliding door is damaged or won't close securely, we aim for same-day or next-day response across Dublin. We supply sliding doors to fit almost any rear opening: – 2-panel (one fixed, one sliding): best for 2.0m–3.0m openings — the standard Dublin semi or terrace – 3-panel: 3.0m–4.5m openings, giving roughly 50% clear opening when slid back – 4-panel or pocket-slide (aluminium): up to 6m for kitchen extensions and new builds uPVC covers most openings up to ~3m. For anything wider, or for the slimmest possible frames, aluminium lift & slide is the right system. We measure on-site and confirm the exact configuration in your quote.
It comes down to the width of your opening and how you use the room: – French doors (1.5m–2.0m): best for standard openings, period homes and tighter budgets. Both leaves open fully. From ~€1,800 + VAT. – Sliding patio doors (2.0m–6m): best for wider openings where you want maximum light and zero swing clearance. ~50% of the opening clears. From ~€1,800 (uPVC) to €4,000+ (aluminium). – Bifold doors: fold back to clear almost the entire opening, but have more frame and visible mullions than a slider when closed. For a side-by-side breakdown see our French doors vs patio doors guide. We'll quote whichever suits your opening — no upsell.
Yes — A-rated external sliding doors qualify for the SEAI Better Energy Homes grant of up to €800 per door (max two doors per home) on eligible homes built before 2011 with adequate insulation. Every sliding door we fit meets the required U-value (≤1.4 W/m²K), and Airtight is an SEAI-registered installer, which is required for your upgrade to qualify. We'll confirm eligibility on the survey before quoting.
Thresholds: standard upstand or a low-level threshold for near-flush access — ideal with underfloor heating, prams or wheelchair access. Glass: toughened safety glass as standard; solar-control glass to cut summer heat gain on south-facing gardens; acoustic glass for homes near busy roads. Double or triple glazing on every system.
Manufacturing is typically 4–6 weeks (uPVC) or 6–8 weeks (aluminium lift & slide), as each door is built to your exact measurements. Installation itself takes one day for uPVC and one to two days for wide aluminium spans, including removal and disposal of your old doors and full site clean-up.
