The vast majority of homes we re-door across Kildare are estate-built properties from the 1990s and early 2000s - the wave of construction that landed in the commuter belt around Maynooth, Leixlip, Celbridge, Naas, Newbridge and Sallins. The uPVC doors fitted to those homes were typically a single-point lock with a basic 28mm panel and a galvanised steel reinforcer that, twenty years later, has rusted out where rain has run off the threshold. The hinges have dropped, the door scrapes the frame, the seal whistles in winter, and the cylinder is now a target for snap attacks.
Replacing with a modern uPVC door means a 70mm reinforced sash, a five-point hook-bolt lock, an anti-snap TS007 3-star cylinder, and a thermally-broken aluminium threshold. The U-value drops from around 3.5 W/m²K on the original door to 1.4 W/m²K - a measurable difference at the back of the house. Front doors on detached homes around Maynooth and Naas are usually replaced with composite (a solid timber or polyurethane core) for the heavier feel, but uPVC remains the right answer for back doors, side doors, and any rented or rental-spec property where value matters.

Standard uPVC door U-value: 1.4 W/m²K. Triple-glazed glass cassette option: 1.0 W/m²K. Thermally broken aluminium threshold breaks the cold bridge between the floor slab and the doorway - critical for the typical Kildare back door that opens onto a tiled kitchen floor.
70mm multi-chambered uPVC profile with full-perimeter galvanised steel reinforcement. Internally beaded glass cassette - the bead is on the inside of the door, so the glass cannot be removed from outside. Strap hinges are anti-jemmy on the hinge side.
White, anthracite grey, black, oak foil, rosewood foil, and chartwell green as standard. Glass cassettes available in 100+ designs including Georgian, leaded, frosted privacy and contemporary clear. Side panels and overhead transoms available where the existing opening allows.
External doors are eligible for SEAI grant funding when bundled with windows in a Better Energy Homes or One Stop Shop application. Up to €800 per home is available for door replacements that meet the U-value threshold.

A uPVC door is built from extruded plastic profile with a multi-chambered core. A composite door uses a solid timber, GRP or polyurethane core with a uPVC frame around it. uPVC doors are typically €400-€600 cheaper. Composite doors look more like a real timber door, are heavier and warmer underhand, and tend to be the choice for front entrances on detached homes around Naas and Maynooth. We fit both - the right answer depends on your budget and where the door faces.
Yes, every week. Replacement back doors and side patio doors make up roughly a quarter of our Kildare workload. Most of those are 1990s and early 2000s estate doors that have lost their drop-down mechanism, dropped on the hinges, or simply do not seal properly any more. A new uPVC back door with multi-point locking and a low threshold fits in 4-5 hours and is fully sealed and operational the same day.

They use a multi-point locking system (typically 5 hooks and 2 deadbolts), anti-snap, anti-bump and anti-pick cylinders rated TS007 3-star, internally beaded glass, and reinforced steel inside the sash. They meet Garda and insurance requirements for new external doors.
External uPVC doors qualify under the SEAI grant scheme when replaced as part of a wider home energy upgrade alongside windows, attic insulation or wall insulation. A door replacement on its own is not SEAI grant eligible - but combined with windows, you can claim up to €1,500 towards windows and €800 towards doors under the One Stop Shop pathway.
